Our Vision

To heal and transform ourselves and our world

Our Work

To foster an awareness of the Sacred within the Human and Natural World

We exist to address the alienation of the human from the cosmic and divine dimensions of reality. This alienation contributes to the impoverishment of the human, the exploitation of the planet and the impending collapse of the natural systems of the planet.

We resolve to live a whole integrated human life. This means a life of conscious communion with the human, cosmic & divine dimensions of reality for the spiritual, emotional and physical healing of individuals, communities and eco-systems. We choose to call this an eco-contemplative life.

Presently every life on the planet is affected by current imbalances: the extinction of species, the pollution of air, water and soils, the depletion of top soils, the threat of bio-engineering to the world’s food supply, the growing corporate control of the necessities of life, the commodification of human labor and the resources of the planet, are on the top of a long list of reasons why Centers like ours need to exist. A transformation of human consciousness is required to reverse the impact of our current thinking and destructive behaviors. We need to create sustainable human economies, in balance with the economies of nature upon which human economies are based, so that the richness, beauty and diversity of the planet and all its inhabitants can be honored and a just and equitable distribution of resources attained.

Our purpose is the transformation of consciousness. We transform consciousness through a contemplative style of living. Mentor to our organization, philosopher and theologian Raimon Panikkar, says “contemplative life is neither pure meditation nor pure action; instead it is the action upon which one reflects and the meditation upon which one acts, the undivided life. It’s name is wisdom.”

Our Work in the World

  1. Private consultation and instruction in Contemplative Practices: Guided Meditation; Gestalt Awareness, Enneagram awareness, Carmelite Spirituality, various Earth awareness practices inspired by Indigenous Peoples.
  2. Support for practice: Private and guided retreats in our Cabin. Opportunities for extended periods of meditation and creative exploration in our Hermitage. Small group workshops in our Ranch House.
  3. Liturgical Celebration. Monthly and Quarterly Earth Liturgy celebrations. On-going compilation of daily earth-liturgy resources for use by groups and individual participants.
  4. Skyline Earthlines, a quarterly online journal exploring the intersecting lines of communication and communion between the Cosmic, Human and Divine dimensions of Reality.
  5. Outreach to the incarcerated through the The Lioness Tale Prison Project.
  6. Commitment to expanding resources and capacities for sustainable living so that the land, its human and other-than-human inhabitants, may live in balance and thrive in mutually enhancing ways.
  7. Educate about the need for genetic diversity in our food supply. Organically garden. Establish endangered livestock breeds.
  8. Interact with the local community to support sustainable practices and promote the transformation of consciousness to which Skyline Harvest has committed itself.

In these ways we live a life of action informed by reflection, and deep inquiry leading to an engaged life. In these ways we foster an “undivided” life, a life of contemplative presence, a life of wisdom.

We believe

  • That the universe is a communion of subjects to be revered, not a collection of objects to be exploited.
  • That the dominant Western mode of thinking is endangering the continuation of life on the planet and that human consciousness must therefore experience a transformation.
  • A transformed human consciousness is aware of the sacredness and interrelatedness of all life, honors bio-diversity and safe guards the conditions for life to flourish for all generations to come.
  • That love, openness, dialogue, reconciliation and forgiveness are necessary for peace, and that peace begins in the human heart.

We assume

Humanity is good. Creation is good. God (Divinity) is good. By trusting the basic goodness of the tri-fold Reality all things are possible.
